Did Jesus allow for reincarnation? Assessing the syntax of John 9:3-4

Abstract

This article tests the coherence of a recent scholarly argument that the syntax of John 9:3-4 opens the door for the possibility that Jesus would not have absolutely denied the possibility of reincarnation. This study examines the syntactical construction in question to discern if the construction can indeed sustain this assertion. The article also addresses passages in Hellenistic Jewish literature that are relevant to this understanding of John 9:3-4.
